Sharing Life Experiences: Adaptability and Flexibility at Work

Assignment:

To develop your evidence, you must participate in the forum called "Sharing Life Experiences" and based on aspects of your work experience, provide reasoned and creative answers to the following questions based on the initial situation:

Think about an experience at work where you were flexible and adapted to a new situation or a change in the process.

Now answer:

· What was the result of the experience?

· How did your flexibility and adaptability help you deal with the situation?

· Would you change anything in order to deal in a better way with it?

My experience:

One of the most defining experiences in my work as a web designer was the emergence of smartphones. Clients wanted their websites to look stunning on computers, televisions, and smartphones. However, early smartphones were not as standardized as they are today, where the market is primarily divided between Android and iOS (Apple). Back then, there were also Windows Phone, BlackBerry OS, and Firefox OS. The same challenges existed with computer screens, some users had access to the latest technologies, while others still used low-resolution screens that struggled to handle small files. Designers had to balance loading speed and image quality.

Designing websites involved countless variables. A web designer had to be more than just a designer; they had to be a webmaster, proficient in everything from design to programming in PHP, HTML5, XML, JavaScript, and CSS3, and skilled in database management. Additionally, mastering modern CMSs (Content Management Systems) like Joomla and WordPress was essential.

* What was the result of the experience?

The impact of this experience on my career was profound. I had to teach myself a great deal, reading every manual I could find on the internet regardless of the language. I even enrolled in an English course to expand my grammar and vocabulary, specifically related to my field. Although I never spoke English, I reached a point where I could read a manual fluently, only realizing afterward that it was entirely in English.

This process helped me overcome my fear of experimentation and reverse engineering in web programming and design. As a result, I advanced professionally by leaps and bounds.

* How did your flexibility and adaptability help you deal with the situation?

More than flexibility, adaptability was what allowed me to thrive. Versions of software, search engines, databases, and other technologies evolved rapidly, forcing me to constantly navigate the concepts of "obsolete" and "updated." What worked in one version would become completely unusable in the next, sometimes within mere days, so I had to continually adjust and evolve.

* Would you change anything to better handle the experience?

I don’t think I would change my approach because it shaped me into the professional and person I am today. This journey instilled in me a constant drive to keep learning and growing.

Thanks.
